Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season has only just kicked off, and already it feels like we’ve been at this for months! Between the Bears hanging 59 points on the Panthers last weekend and the absolute shoot out between Houston and Buffalo, the opening slate of games tied 2012 for the most scores in week 1 ever. And we’re just getting warmed up, just getting started. (Thank you Jason Aldean!) So much has already happened this season that it can be hard to keep up, and with the games coming thick and fast, here are the top things that you need to know for NFL week 2. And if I have missed anything, don’t be afraid to let me know!
Josh Allen on a mission in Buffalo
4 days after outgunning CJ Stroud in Houston and getting that particular monkey off his back, Josh Allen powered the Bills to a thrilling and dominant 41-31 victory over Detroit in the new Highmark Stadium on Thursday night football. The signal caller accounted for 5 total touchdowns and played like a man possessed in a game that was nowhere as close as the score indicated. It was the fourth such performance of his career, one that the Bills will need to see emulated for the rest of the season if they have any hope of getting rid of the other monkey and finally lifting a Lombardi trophy. They’ve come agonizingly close before – but could this be their year?
Myles Garret placed on Injured Reserve
The reigning Defensive MVP’s time in Los Angeles has gotten off to a less than auspicious start. After a much ballyhooed arrival from Cleveland and all the talk of teaming up with the unretired Aaron Donald, Garrett didn’t log a single sack or pressure in his debut down under, and is now out of action for at least 4 weeks after undergoing knee surgery. This is a less than ideal situation for the Rams after they gave up a trove to bring him in (including talented pass rusher Jared Verse). Garrett will be eligible to return for their week 6 contest against the Cardinals, but his early absence is concerning and could force Los Angeles to make alternative arrangements in the interim.
TJ Watt makes History
Speaking of former DPOY’s, TJ Watt is now just the second player in NFL history with 100+ sacks and 10+ interceptions in his career, joining Hall of Famer Julius Peppers. The edge rusher had a field day in Pittsburgh’s season opener against Atlanta, logging multiple sacks and a film worthy pick six to seal victory for the Steelers. Watt is the Steelers all time sack leader and also earned the league wide title a few years back. The big question looming now though is will he play long enough for the Steelers to win another trophy? Both himself and Cam Heyward are entering the twilight years of their careers and time is definitely running out.
Falcons QB Conundrum
Hey Falcon fans, you might want to look away now. Cooper Rush is back at the wheel for another week and things are probably going to get ugly. With Michael Penix Jr and Tua Tagovaiola still sidelined by injury, Rush has been thrust into action once again for tomorrow’s NFC south matchup against Carolina. Atlanta are solely in survival mode at the Quarterback position until Penix is fully ready to go, but the planned heavy dose of Bijan Robinson didn’t really have the desired effect against Pittsburgh once they figured out how to stop him. Chances are he’ll fare better against the Panthers, but Kevin Stefanski better hope and pray that his former first round Quarterback gets healthy sooner rather than later.
