NFL Week Six Review: Overtime Drama Enthralls
Gaelic Gridiron’s NFL Coverage is brought to you, in association, with Buskers on the Ball.
Just as the previous week’s fixtures brought us some Over Time excitement, week six did not fail to deliver! Fans and neutrals alike were treated to a plethora of exciting individual performances and collective horror shows! The Steelers’ defense kept the team in the game until the offense showed up. The Texans D were aided with the return to form of CJ Stroud. The Giants may see hope for the season with JJ McCarthy a possibility at starting QB.
Steelers Sting Buccaneers
With a scoreline of 16-3 going into the Fourth Quarter, many Steelers fans were dismayed at watching the Defense play unaided by the uninspiring performance of their offense. Jalen Ramsey was resilience embodied: he was everywhere! Finishing the game with ten tackles and two sacks including a key takedown of Jalon Daniels on fourth down in OT!
The Steelers owe their D big time (AGAIN!) to be still with a chance as the game entered the fourth: Daniels had struggled throughout, given the pressure he endured. It took all of Rodgers’ veteran nous to lead the Steelers to their first away win of the season … and in typical Rodgers fashion it arrived at the death. His two touchdowns (the first to Darnell Washington and OT winner to Germie Bernard) were enough to secure a win. Alas, Steelers fans are still frustrated at just five successful third down completions from a possible fifteen! Here’s hoping a good performance and a win in Paris may kickstart what has been a disappointing offensive season so far.

Stroud’s Return to Form Revitalises Texans
The Texans’ season was looking to be sliding away from their control: and plenty expected the Jags to return to the US with two wins. Alas, no one told CJ Stroud. He looked to be enjoying the Wembley experience, and breathed new life into the Texans’ season. He was thrilling: outscoring the highly favoured Trevor Lawrence 17-10 at the half.
The hair’s breath difference on the scoreline is matched by the duel between the two QBs. Lawrence had another impressive game with 306 total yards, 4 TDs and 1 Int. Stroud himself was in fine form with 312 yards, 3 TDs and 1 Int: his performance saw him rekindle the hopes of his rookie season. Texans fans will be hoping he can carry that form back across the Atlantic: against the Giants …

McCarthy May Give Big Blue Hope for the Season
Stroud and the Texans will face the Giants with a fresh option at QB. JJ McCarthy replaced Jameis Winston, after the latter threw two interceptions … Giants fans cheered as McCarthy entered the field … and threw an Int! The Saints were leading 34-10 and seemed to be in control. But the former Michigan Wolverine had other plans.
His 243 yards and a thrown TD in 11 minutes brought the Giants hope: they reduced the deficit to 34-27. The Giants simply ran out of time at the Saints’ 14 yard line to tie the game. With all the commotion of losing Dart and Winston’s inconsistency, it appears John Harbaugh has a QB he can trust. And with the Giants first in the NFC East (I KNOW!!) with a 3-2-1 record, who knows what the ceiling is with McCarthy starting?
