Saquon’s Vaulting Ambition – NFL Week 9
Is there any point in starting anywhere else?
That’s right, ACLs and MCLs will be under threat all over the world as mere mortals attempt to re-enact Saquon Barkley’s pirouetting and majestic play against the Jaguars … if that play does not encapsulate the sheer determination, raw tenacity and sheer athleticism of american football, then I don’t know what does. Then again, if it happened EVERY week, it would not be as memorable! What.A.Sport!
In other news … The Saints have ousted HC Dennis Allen; the Irish have a NFL kicking king and the Lions continue their great form!
Panthers Loss Sinks Allen
The New Orleans Saints have announced the firing of Head Coach Dennis Allen. Allen’s dismal record in the previous six weeks meant he was under severe pressure to guide his team to a win against the Panthers. He could not lead the team to a redemptive win. With seven losses in the last seven games, the Saints decided to cut their tie to Allen. The Panthers, themselves on a five game losing streak, were heavy underdogs. Saints’ owner Gayle Benson was left with no choice but to make the decision: declaring it “something that I felt we needed to make at this time.”

Giants Get Rub of the Green, but Lose to Commanders
Irish eyes were smiling, and then downcast, despite the best efforts of Irish born Jude McAtamney. The Derry man scored a PAT and a 31 yard Field Goal to become the very first Irishman to score points in the NFL since Neil Donoghue scored for the then St Louis Cardinals: here’s hoping 24 year old McAtamney can match Donoghue’s 112 field goals successfully converted! The Commanders go 7-2 for the first time since 1996 and look set to soar ahead of every NFC East challenger as the season enters its second half: Jayden Daniels again supplied the ammunition throwing two touchdowns and for 209 yards.

Lions Ruling the North
The Detroit Lions continue to set the pace after a bruising win against the Green Bay Packers. Jared Goff completed 18 of 22 attempts and passed for 145 yards to put the Packers to the sword in this NFC North battle. The Lions have won six straight and seek to build on their momentum: the Texans, 6-3, await in the long grass ahead of next week’s MNF crunch fixture. Jordan Love had a night to forget: completing 23 of 39 attempts and while 273 yards gained looks good on paper, he failed to throw for one Touchdown, but recorded one interception.

Well there you have it, bar the much anticipated Chiefs and Buccaneers face-off on MNF, the dust has pretty much settled on ANOTHER pulsating and exciting week of NFL action. The Irish have announced their arrival on the competitive NFL stage via the International Player Pathway, and here’s hoping he won’t be the only Irishman scoring points in the regular season over the next few years! 39 years has been a long enough wait!
Oh, okay! Alright, one more time!
